1 Peter 5

Pastor Dain Spore - The Elders - 1 Peter 5

Hey Gang,

Boy, I was kind of shocked when I began to prepare this lesson and realized we were going to finish the book! In chapter five Peter takes it to the elders. I resemble his remarks!

Also, I will tell you what we will be doing next. I’m super excited about it and know you will be as well. But you have to watch to find out!

Pastor Dain Spore: Surprise! 1 Peter 4

In 1 Peter chapter 4, Peter says the world is surprised that we don’t follow them down their road. Shortly thereafter he says Christians should not be surprised when we suffer in this world. The word for “surprise” is interesting. In the Greek it is “Xenezontai” which has its root meaning as “to entertain strangers." What a long strange trip it’s been! And with plenty of “strangers” along the way. God has really been teaching me to “not be surprised” over the last couple of crazy “strange” years. We cover all of chapter 4.

Pastor Dain Spore: Set Apart Christ
1 Peter chapter 31-22.

Hey Gang,

We cover one of my all time favorite verses about us having hope, and how we can turn that into a most natural and effective witnessing tool! It will be both an encouragement AND a challenge for us. Here is the verse:

”But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,” 1 Peter 3:15.

Thanks for watching!

1 Peter 3:1-7

Me submit? Never! Just kidding. As covered last week, we ALL are submitted to something or somebody.

This time we cover a much misunderstood and therefore much maligned scripture: “Wives submit to your husbands." I used to dread teaching this passage until I finally did, and then I learned what was God’s intent. Then my response was, “Oh, I get it." I now look forward to teaching on these verses and I know you will enjoy them as well!

1 Peter 2:11-25

Hey Gang!

I wonder what is worse: The battle within (with our sinful nature) or the battle without (fallen society)? Hard to answer that question, but one thing we know for sure, it is a challenge.

This time we heed Peter’s call to suppress our sinful desires so we might be victorious over our worldly enemies and glorify God.

It's all in 1Peter 2:11-25.

1 Peter 2:1-10

Hey Gang,

Years ago when I was a young, upstart preacher I came up with a really stupid illustration about how we are defined by God in 1 Peter. I thought it was just silly. However, years later, people still remind me about it which means it had the desired effect.

What was the illustration? In 1 Peter chapter two, Peter says we are “living stones” who God is using to build a Temple for Himself. I added to that the idea that we are to “bear much fruit”.

Stones that bear fruit? Fruit bearing stones? Could it be….?

That's right, a box of cereal: Fruity Pebbles. How dumb was that?! But people never forgot it! So there.

1 Peter 1:13-25

Do you ever think about the call on our lives to follow Christ, but in the light of what He has forgiven us? Sometimes I find it almost crushing, and maybe that’s a good thing!

Join us as we discuss 1 Peter 1:13-25. God says "Be Holy because I am Holy." How in the heck can we do that???!!!

1 Peter 1:3-12

This time around Pastor Dain takes a look at 1 Peter 1:3-12. Praise song, doxology, Jewish Prayer, or explanation of salvation--that’s all the different definitions of 1 Peter 1:3-12

1 Peter Intro

Pastor Dain Spore introduces 1 Peter, the beginning of a series based on the Apostle Peter's great first letter to early Christians. Topics covered in this video include holiness, Peter's possible writing partner Silas, Peter's penchant to apply Old Testament references to the Christian experience, persecution and the overall construction of Peter's letter.
